Crane (鶴) - Tadasaku Oyama (大山忠作,1922-2009) - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Work Title: Crane (鶴) Artist: Tadasaku Oyama (大山忠作,1922-2009) Technique Type: Woodblock Print Signature & Seal: The lower left corner of the print bears the artist’s signature and seal Paper Size: 57 × 42 cm (22.4 × 16.5 in) Image Size: 45 × 33.5 cm (17.7 × 13.2 in) Frame Size: 63 × 48 × 2.5 cm (24.8 × 18.9 × 1.0 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) Carver (Chōshi / 雕師): Bunjūrei San (文寿礼三) Printer (Sasshi / 撮師): Hiroshi Toda (戸田寛) This exquisite woodblock print is a classic work created in 1976 by Tadasaku Oyama (大山忠作), an iconic master of Nihonga (日本画). As a leading figure in the field of Nihonga, he was the recipient of such prestigious honors as the Japan Art Academy Prize (日本芸術院賞) and the Order of Culture (文化勲章). The central subject of this piece is a red-crowned crane—its snow-white plumage paired with black flight feathers, with a strikingly bright red crest on its head. The crane strikes an outstretched, poised posture that exudes both refined elegance and vivid vitality. The background features a streamlined layered color scheme: a gradient of warm light brown on the upper section, a rich sapphire blue in the middle, and a dark gray tone for the ground below. The bold yet harmonious color contrast serves to further accentuate the crane’s pure whiteness and inherent nobility. Crane not only carries forward the traditional symbolic connotations of longevity and auspiciousness attached to cranes in Eastern culture, but also embodies artistic expression aligned with modern aesthetics through its minimalist composition and vibrant color palette. The left edge of the paper bears the signatures of the artist, carver (Chōshi) and printer (Sasshi). The lower left corner of the work has the artist’s signature and seal; a signed label sticker of the artist is affixed to the backboard of the frame, with an additional sheet of the artist’s biographical notes attached. This print comes with its original frame and glass panel. The frame shows signs of wear including dents, scuffs and paint peeling. Due to age, the print paper has developed oxidation yellowing and edge creases. Overall, however, the work is in good condition. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
