Sweden. 8 Skilling Banco 1848 1848 – an important date for Sweden In 1848, Sweden was indirectly affected by the wave of European revolutions. Riots broke out in Stockholm (the so-called “March riots”), triggered by an economic crisis and demands for political reforms. Although no revolution took place, these events accelerated reforms, including the gradual expansion of civil rights and constitutional changes (culminating in the parliamentary reform of 1866). The Spring of Nations – briefly The Spring of Nations (1848–1849) was a wave of revolutions across Europe, inspired by liberalism, nationalism, and democratic ideas. Its goals included constitutions, civil rights, national self-determination, and improved living conditions. Most uprisings failed, but they left lasting effects, such as the abolition of feudalism in some countries and the development of modern states.
