Tierfossil - Nemicolopterus crypticus - 55 cm - 44 cm

Scientific name: Nemicolopterus crypticus Size: 33x20cm (Framed) Frame size: 55x44cm Morphological analysis of the fossil: Skull: The skull appears relatively large. The rostrum (snout) is slender and sharply pointed, and no obvious teeth are visible in the photographs. This is consistent with the characteristics of a small, toothless pterosaur. Forelimb (wing): The fourth digit is extremely elongated, forming the main support for the wing membrane. Metatarsals: The metatarsals are slender and comparatively long. Overall posture / preservation: The specimen is preserved in a flattened, largely articulated position. Its preservation style closely resembles the typical pterosaur fossils from the Yixian and Ningcheng areas of Liaoning/Inner Mongolia (Jehol-type lacustrine deposits). Age and biology: Lived approximately 120 million years ago (Early Cretaceous). Considered one of the smallest known pterosaurs, with an estimated wingspan of less than ~25 cm. Toothless, with a relatively small skull and extremely slender limb proportions. Taphonomy / deformation: The skull appears to be slightly rotated to the left, and the cervical vertebrae may be twisted or folded, which makes the head look “sideways” or deformed. Repair and Restoration: There are traces of later repair and slight restoration on the skull and at the junction of the cervical vertebrae and skull. The rock slab shows signs of fracture repair, and the abdominal part has surface reinforcement and anti-weathering coating. Fluorescence images show that only a small portion of body tissue is repaired.
