Antique French Silver Feather Dip Pen in Original Case – 19th Century An elegant and highly decorative antique French dip pen, crafted in the form of a finely detailed feather (plume), dating from the 19th century. The pen is made of solid silver, marked with the French crab hallmark, indicating a minimum silver content of 800/1000, used in France during the 19th century. The feather design is beautifully chased, with finely engraved barbs and a raised central shaft, demonstrating skilled craftsmanship and strong artistic character. The pen is preserved in a fitted leather case, lined with deep red velvet. We think it is original but you have to puzzle to get it correct. The exterior of the case is embellished with the gilded initials of the original owner, adding a personal and historical dimension to the piece. The case itself is of high quality, with decorative gold tooling along the edges. This type of pen was intended as a dip pen, used with a removable metal nib ( included ). Such pens were commonly used by educated elites, writers, and officials during the 19th century and are today highly sought after as desk objects, collectors’ items, or display pieces.
