Römisches Reich Glas Römisches Glasschmuckgefäß mit kunstvoller Farbgebung und Irisieren (1. – 3. Jahrhundert n. Chr.)

Ancient Roman Iridescent Glass Beaker / Balsamarium – c. 1st–3rd Century AD A beautiful and highly evocative ancient Roman glass vessel, likely a small beaker or balsamarium (perfume vessel), distinguished by its elegant form and striking natural iridescence developed over centuries of burial. The vessel is formed from pale translucent glass and decorated with applied trailed glass bands around the body, creating a textured and sculptural surface. The upper section flares gently outward, while the lower portion terminates in a rounded base, giving the piece a well-balanced and harmonious profile. The surface displays attractive iridescent hues—with shimmering tones of gold, blue, and violet—caused by long-term chemical interaction with the burial environment. This iridescence is highly prized among collectors of ancient glass and enhances the vessel’s visual depth and authenticity. Such small vessels were commonly used in the Roman world to hold perfumes, oils, or cosmetic substances, often placed in domestic settings or funerary contexts. Details: Culture: Ancient Roman Date: c. 1st–3rd Century AD Material: Glass Type: Beaker / Balsamarium / Perfume vessel Decoration: Applied trailed glass bands Colour: Pale translucent glass with strong iridescence Height: approx. 30–40 mm Condition: Very good ancient condition; expected wear, surface weathering, and iridescence consistent with age; structurally stable A charming and characterful example of Roman glasswork, combining refined craftsmanship with the unmistakable beauty of time-worn iridescence. An excellent addition to a collection of ancient glass, Roman artefacts, or classical antiquities. Dear bidders, please note that we do not ship to the UK or to countries outside the European Union.
