Meteoriten CVoxA3, eine kohlenstoffreiche Chondrite (NWA 17324) aus Nordwestafrika, Algerien, Gewicht 2,75 g.
Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
Northwest Africa 17324
Purchased: 2024 Jul
Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVox3)
Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Chondrules, CAIs and AOAs are embedded in a dark fine-grained matrix, which mainly consists of equilibrated Fe-rich olivine (about 40 vol% matrix). Most chondrules have apparent diameters between 0.2 and 1.2 mm. CAIs with sizes up to 0.6 mm have been found. Type II chondrules are rare. Opaque minerals are sulfides with varying Ni contents and Ni-rich metal.
Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: The mean composition of equilibrated olivine grains in matrix is Fa50.6±0.3 (n=x2). Random measurements of olivine grains in chondrules and chondrule fragments revealed Fa8.8±4.6 (Fa2.4-16.2); n=10. The mean composition of low-Ca pyroxene in chondrules and chondrule fragments is Fs1.0±0.3 Wo0.9±0.2 (Fs0.7-1.4 Wo0.6-1.2); n=13. Ni concentration in sulfides (wt%): 4.2±8.4 (0.1-22.4); n=10. Ni concentration in metal (wt%): 66.1±5.3 (53.0-68.3); n=8.
Classification: CV chondrite based on CAI and AOA occurrence, apparent sizes of chondrules and CAIs, chondrule-matrix ratio, and mineral chemistry. Petrologic type 3 based on the chemical variation of olivine and pyroxene. Mean Ni concentrations in metal and sulfide are in the range of the CVoxA subgroup
Shock stage: C-S3
Weathering grade: Moderate
Classifier: K. Metzler, IfP
