Ahnenfiguren - Lobi - Burkina Faso

Two well-used ancestor figures from Burkina Faso. Used on familiy altars in the Lobi community to communicate with the ancestors in times of need. To make this consultation more effective these figures are poured over with special liquids or with feathers and blood. These traces of offerings are still visible on these presented figures. Very nice old patina due to their long use. Typical Lobi design with the hands folded in front of the belly. These figures are carved by different Lobi carvers; hence their different designs. H. 24,5 and 26,5 cm. (without socle). Collected in Burkina Faso in the 1990,s and from a private Dutch collection.
