Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
A very exclusive and rare collector's item of the famous photographer Tina Modotti. Seven images selected from among the most significant works of Tina Modotti are collected in this elegant portfolio, characterized by the highest quality in both graphic design and editorial presentation, as well as in the reproduction of the photographs directly from the original prints.
Considered one of the most important photographers of the twentieth century, Tina Modotti spent part of her adventurous life in Mexico, where, between 1923 and 1930, she took her most important and unforgettable photographs in terms of emotional power, including the images contained in this portfolio.
This portfolio of six full page reproductions of silver gelatin prints (Gala Lilies, Dolores Del Rio, Composition with Telphone Wires, Pregnant Woman with Child in her Arm, Bamboo Canes, Elegance and Poverty) and one full page platinum print (Portic Interior with Staircase) was created on the occasion of the exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art, Udine, promoted and organized by the Tina Modotti Commitee. It was designed by Artemio Croatto.
Hand-numbered 1/24 in pencil. Original light brown half-cloth over cream paper-covered boards with blind-stamped and light brown lettering on cover, housed in printed light brown cardboard slipcase. Stiff textured cream endpapers with ten glossy heavy paper plates embeded by full page parchment leaves. Title page and Bio-page with thumbnail portrait photographs.
Includes brief text on photography by Tina Modotti and page with biographical text by Johann Hagemeyer at rear. Exquisite production on one of the early lumnaries of photography. "Many have paid tribute to Tina Modotti's personality and artistic sensibility, among them Pablo Neruda, who dedicated a famous poem to her. The first verses of this poem are carved on Tina's tomb in the Pantheon des Dolores in Mexico City." (Hagemeyer). Text in Italian and English.
Condition: Book in excellent condition outside and inside, basically no signs of usage, interior clean and unmarked, firm binding. Slipcase with minor scratch on lower right bottom, otherwise in excellent condition, too.
