„French silver patch box (mouche box), Paris, Consulate / early Empire period (1803–1809)” – Paris,
Consulate / Early Empire Period (1803-1809)
A charming and early French silver box dating from the Consulate and early Empire period, Paris, circa 1803-1809.
This finely crafted circular box is decorated with elegant hand-engraved ornamentation. The lid features a central floral rosette surrounded by radiating motifs and geometric borders, reflecting the refined neoclassical taste of the Napoleonic era. The body is embellished with delicate engraved details and framed by finely reeded borders.
The piece bears French silver hallmarks including the rooster mark for second standard silver (800/1000) together with Paris guarantee marks used during the first years of the 19th century.
Originally intended as a mouche, patch box, snuff box or small personal container, it is a delightful example of French silversmithing from the Consulate and early Empire period.
Dimensions
Diameter: approx. 4 cm
Height: approx. 1.7 cm
Weight: approx. 29 g
Condition
Very good antique condition with light wear and minor surface marks consistent with age and careful use. The photographs form an integral part of the description.
A rare and elegant early 19th-century French silver object, highly decorative and increasingly difficult to find with original period hallmarks.
