The nickel-plated cover plates are engraved "CHROMONIKA — Chromatische Mundharmonica — M. Hohner," with holes numbered 1–12. The underside of the covers carries Hohner's award medallions: Grand Prix Chicago 1893, Grand Prix Philadelphia 1926, Grand Prix Geneva 1927, and Grand Prix Paris 1937, flanking the clasped-hands "Trade-Mark" emblem with its six-pointed "Gesetzlich Geschützt" star, and stamped "Made in Germany." The comb, visible at the mouthpiece end, is a mottled orange/black tortoiseshell-effect composite material typical of this model — original and uncracked.
Age
The complete set of four award medallions with the star intact places manufacture in the circa 1937 to late 1940s/early 1950s range. Hohner, "4500 Gefolgschaftsmitglieder" workforce notice, production/quality text referencing over 20,000,000 units annually, matching Geneva 1927/Philadelphia 1926/Paris 1937 award references, and a red "C" disc confirming the key. Wear to the leatherette at corners and hinge points, pressboard core lightly visible beneath — case remains structurally rigid and sound, no warping.
