Iconic Memories

This series of original works explores the enduring power of cultural icons through a contemporary, painterly lens. Figures drawn from cinema, music, and popular culture emerge from loosely worked surfaces, suspended somewhere between portrait, memory, and reinterpretation.

Rather than pursuing photographic precision, the works deliberately reduce and fragment their subjects. Faces, costumes, and familiar silhouettes are built from expressive lines, soft washes, layered pigments, and areas of raw paper. Muted tones are interrupted by selective accents of red, blue, violet, and ochre, creating a tension between nostalgia and the present.

The series moves freely between different eras and visual worlds—from the elegance and glamour of classic cinema to the darker mythology of modern popular culture. Despite their different origins, the figures share a common visual language. They become less representations of individual personalities than echoes of images deeply embedded in our collective memory.

The visible traces of the artistic process are an essential part of the works: irregular edges, fading passages, sketch-like marks, and deliberately unfinished areas emphasize their character as unique originals. The image appears to emerge from the paper and, in places, dissolve back into it.

Emma Wildfang is a young Pop-Art street artist. Her artworks are scattered in collections all over the world. She manages to create a very special vintage style. After attending the master class, the artist has been self-taught since 2002. Her constant search for new techniques and means of expression made it almost imperative for her to now also deal with spatial structures as a sculptor. Due to the restlessness and instability of her creative process she lives up to the name Wildfang. However, in all of her works, Wildfang does not seek the perfect, symmetrically idealized work, but finds instead finds beauty in the fragmented, in the detail, and in the enigmatic. Her way of working is to find perfection in the imperfect.
