Magnific painting oil on canvas that represents Saint Joseph with the Child Jesus, one of the most emblematic iconographies of the Spanish Baroque. The composition shows the saint holding the Child while bearing the traditional rod flowered with lilies, symbolizing his purity and his divine choice as the husband of the Virgin Mary. The Child Jesus holds a small cross, alluding to the future Passion of Christ.

The work presents the characteristics of seventeenth‑century Baroque painting, with lighting of strong tenebrism influence, dark background and a delicate modeling of the faces that emphasizes spirituality and devotional character of the scene. The sober palette and the treatment of the garments reinforce the inwardness typical of Spanish religious painting of the period.

The canvas was re‑stretched during the nineteenth century, a common conservation intervention in old works intended to guarantee its structural stability and prolong its useful life.
