1909 Heavy Arts & Crafts antique sterling silver hammered trophy or bowl, Transvaal Scottish regiment / Solomon Mahlangu Regiment interest

Made by Robert Fead Mosley Co of Sheffield in 1909, this fine-quality Arts & Crafts-period silver trophy, or you might call it a silver bowl or tazza, features a characteristic hand-hammered finish on its circular bowl and base. The bowl sits on a central baluster stem supported by three double-scrolled buttress legs that flare out from the stem to the underside of the bowl.

On the side, you will find a distinctive hand-engraved logo of a famous reserve infantry regiment of the South African Army, the Transvaal Scottish Regiment (renamed the Solomon Mahlangu Regiment), depicting a Scottish Thistle, a heraldic strap, and the motto 'Alba Nam Buadh'. Formed in 1902 in Johannesburg, famous for wearing the Murray of Atholl tartan and their affiliation with the British Army's Black Watch, the regiment saw extensive service in the Zulu Rebellion, both World Wars, and the South African Border War.
