Original British India General Service Medal 1908–1935, issued during the reign of King George V, with the clasp:

“WAZIRISTAN 1921–24”

The medal was awarded for service during British military operations on the North-West Frontier of India.

Of particular interest is the original naming on the rim:

“COOK MANSHA. 4-13 F.F. RIF.”

The recipient, Mansha, served as a Cook with the 4th Battalion, 13th Frontier Force Rifles, one of the historic regiments of the British Indian Army.

The 4/13th Frontier Force Rifles were formerly known as the 57th Wilde’s Rifles (Frontier Force) and were redesignated as the 4th Battalion, 13th Frontier Force Rifles during the 1922 reorganisation of the Indian Army.

The unusual designation “COOK MANSHA”, without a service number, makes this an interesting named example associated with the Indian personnel serving with this distinguished Frontier Force battalion.
