Julian Barron - C.E.N.S.U.R.A. Signed Limited Edition + Print - 2011

A very rare first edition, special edition first printing of the remarkable photo book C.E.N.S.U.R.A. by JULIAN BARON and published in 2011. The version - one of an edition of only 25 - includes the book C.E.N.S.U.R.A. signed and dated on the first page by Baron contained in a bespoke clamsheel box with titled debossed in metallic red on the lid. The book itself features 80 pages, with 51 four color plates and measures 9-1/4 x 6-1/4 inches. The book was limited to 1000 copies and this version is from the even rarer edition of 25 complete with a limited edition C print measuring 15.2 cm x 20.3cm. In his photobook CENSURA Julián Barón presents a work based on the style of 'broken camera,' using powerful flashes that blind both the viewer and the photographed character and transforming that photographic error into a political language. In that big circus that politics is, photography and censorship are allied to each other in order to manipulate people through the false use of image as a document, using large mass media to subtly but constantly mask those aspects that do not respond to the claims of the parties, blurring and distorting reality. However, by focusing in a different way on politics and its leaders, trying to use the camera in decomposition, it is also possible to make photography censor censorship and then, negative against negative, offer something positive, some new perspectives on politicians and their superficial status, revealing how the state they defend so hardly vanishes with their actions, their images and all the paraphernalia that surrounds the ivory tower in which they believe they live in. Cited in Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, The Photobook: A History, Volume III. (London and New York: Phaidon, 2014) p300. This item ships from the United Kingdom and the buyer is responsible for any applicable import fees and taxes.
