Westerwald Pottery's history spans from 14th-century local production to a 16th-century immigration boost Potters from northern European centers that established the distinct grey-and-blue, salt-glazed stoneware industry, especially from Höhr, Grenzau, and Grenzhausen. Influenced by migrating potters, the industry flourished in the 17th and 18th centuries. Westerwald stoneware was exported on a large scale to other parts of Europe, especially to Britain.
