Handtuchhalter 手拭掛 (tenugui’kake) - Lackiertes Holz, vergoldete Kupfer - Japan - Späte Edo-Zeit (erste Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts)
A charming lacquered wooden hand-towel rack 手拭掛 (tenugui kake), an item traditionally part of the toiletry furnishings of the aristocracy 容色具 (yôshoku gu).
The detachable frame is adorned with crests 紋 (mon) depicting nine leaves of bamboo in a circle 丸に九枚笹 (maruni kyû maizasa). Executed in golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) on a black lacquered ground 蝋色漆 (rôiro urushi). The ends are fitted with gilded copper hardware, finely engraved with karakusa scroll designs and open fan 扇子 (sensu) motifs. The frame rests on elegant double-lobed bracket feet.
Period: Japan – Late Edo period (first half 19th century).

Considering its age, the rack is in good condition, with small traces of wear consistent with age and use, such as some lacquer losses along the edges. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
