Vase - Keramik, Gold, Emaille, Ein Paar großer Satsuma-Vasen mit naturalistischen und Landschaftsdekorationen. - Japan - Meiji-Zeit (spätes 19. Jahrhundert)
A pair of large Satsuma vases of characteristic lantern form, finely decorated on all four sides within broad reserves depicting scenes of daily life, landscapes, and natural motifs.
Among the subjects are samurai and Manchurian cranes, symbols of longevity and good fortune.
Each vase rests on a four-footed base adorned with Shishi masks on the sides and is completed with a pierced and patinated bronze mount at the neck.
Satsuma ware is one of the finest expressions of Japanese ceramics. Originating from the ancient province of Satsuma (now Kagoshima), it was produced as early as the Edo period (1603–1868) using low-temperature firing, which gives it the characteristic surface with craquelure and vibrant decorations.
The vase is good condition. Some enamel and gold wear consistent with age. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
