Kasten - Antike Maki-e Suzuribako, wunderschöne Tintensteinbox aus Lack mit Maki-e-Technik, Gold, Silber, Holz - Tintensteinbox
This is an inkstone box from the late Edo period.
A work of superb artisanal skill.
The fine, deep lines of the chicken's feathers on the front and the coarse maki-e used on the belly create a realistic texture and contrast.
What's incredible is that the back is even more detailed than the front!
The Edo fishermen and village scenery, with the mountains expressed in perspective through the contrast of gold and silver,
are particularly noteworthy are the fine lines of the ocean's surface.
This is lost technology that cannot be produced today!!
The skills of Edo period maki-e artisans are detailed and delicate.
This inkstone box makes extensive use of Japanese maki-e techniques.
As I've said many times, it's lost technology!
The inkstone features a turnip motif and is an intricately crafted inkstone.
It has been kept in good condition.
There are cracks in three of the four corners of the lid. These are on the surface and are not broken.
There is damage to the liner of the inkstone box. Please take a look at the photos.
Please forgive us as this is a very old item.
It is still in good condition and can be used as an inkstone box.
