A beautiful set of 24 original Meiji-period Japanese chromolithographs (multi-color stone lithographs), printed on 25 July 1907 (Meiji 40) and published on 28 August 1907 by Amijima Kamekichi, a well-known Tokyo publisher specializing in illustrated prints and educational art during the late Meiji era. These prints depict famous landscapes and scenic places across Japan — coastal views, temples, shrines, bridges, pine forests, islands, and mountains — rendered in the elegant Ōkyo school style (signed with the characters 應挙 / Ōkyo), a popular artistic style during the period. Details Type: Chromolithographs (multi-color stone lithography) Period: Meiji 40 (1907) Publisher: Amijima Kamekichi Tokyo-shi Nihonbashi-ku, Bakurōchō 2-chōme 14-ban Artist attribution: In the style of the Ōkyo school (signed 應挙) Technique: Multi-layered stone lithography with fine tonal gradation Paper size: approx. 27 × 19 cm each Number of sheets: 24 prints (complete set) Print subjects: Famous places across Japan (coastal landscapes, shrines, temples, scenic views) Backing: No backing, no mount Verso: Visible color bleed characteristic of Meiji lithography Condition Vintage Meiji condition. Mild toning, light stains, and small margin wear consistent with age (118 years old). Colors remain fresh, and all images are clearly visible. Please refer to photos for a detailed assessment. Historical Note During the late Meiji era, chromolithography became a popular method for producing high-quality, full-color prints for art education, travel promotion, and domestic souvenirs. This set is a fine example of early Japanese color lithography, printed shortly before the shift to Taishō-period modernism. Shipping The prints will be carefully protected with rigid packaging, shipped from Japan with tracking. Combined shipping available on request.
