This is a delightful set of three creative kokeshi dolls, each dressed in a traditional Japanese mino-gasa (straw raincoat and hood). These figures represent rural winter attire from Japan’s snowy regions, capturing a nostalgic scene of travellers or villagers wrapped warmly against the cold. Their rounded wooden heads, charming hand-painted expressions, and brightly colored clothing evoke a sense of warmth and simplicity characteristic of mid-20th-century Japanese folk craft. The bodies are crafted from natural birch wood, giving each doll unique texture and character. Over the wooden torso, the artist added hand-painted details inspired by traditional Japanese clothing. The removable mino straw coats are woven by hand with inner linings in vivid red or green cloth, adding a rustic and authentic touch. Please note: due to age, two of the straw coats have partially opened (as shown in the photos). This aging is typical of vintage materials and enhances their folk-art character.
