Taiheiki Eiden太平記英勇伝 Hori Ranmaru Nagayasu 保理蘭丸永保 - Utagawa Kuniyoshi 歌川國芳 - Japan - Edo-Zeit (1600-1868)

Ukiyo-e writer:Utagawa Kuniyoshi 歌川國芳 Series:Taiheiki Eiden太平記英勇伝 Hori Ranmaru Nagayasu 保理蘭丸永保 size: 36.5cm x 24cm Era: 1865 Taiheiki Eiden : Kuniyoshi Utagawa was so popular for his ``warrior paintings'' depicting great historical figures and heroes of stories that he was even called ``Kuniyoshi's warrior paintings.'' ``Taiheiki Eiyuden'' written by Kuniyoshi Utagawa was published during the ``Oritoyo period'' (the era of Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi), which circumvented the publication control ordinance of the Edo period. This is a set with the theme of "Shokuhojidai". Kuniyoshi Utagawa's rebellious spirit, unafraid of the regulations of the Tokugawa shogunate, and his unconventional ideas, which are not bound by existing frameworks, have captivated not only people of the Edo period, but also people of today. I would like to introduce you to the Taiheiki Eiden written by Kuniyoshi Utagawa. ``Taiheiki Eiden'' is a set of 50 illustrations of warriors that were printed over a period of two years starting in 1848 (first year of the Kaei era). The author is Kuniyoshi Utagawa, a representative ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period who can be said to be the foremost samurai artist. ``Taiheiki'' is also a book from the Nanbokucho period, but in this work, it is ``Taikoki'', a military tale that depicts the rise and rise of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The picture book Taikoki, which was created based on the Taikoki, became an explosive boom among the people of the Edo period, and many Nishiki-e (multicolored ukiyo-e prints) related to the Taikoki were also printed. I did. However, the Edo shogunate was concerned that the content praising Toyotomi Hideyoshi could lead to negating the Tokugawa family's rule. In 1804 (the first year of Bunka), paintings of warriors with subjects from 1573 (first year of Tensho) onward, that is, the Oritoyo era and beyond, were banned. Therefore, Ukiyo-e artists created ``Nisenae'', in which the names of military commanders and battles were written in the correct characters or other names, such as the Taikoki being expressed as the Taiheiki, as well as stories of historical events and classics. By using ``mitate-e'' (mitate-e), in which a character is implied by replacing it with another object or person, he continued to print warrior-e and battle-escapes. Taiheiki Eiden also escaped the censorship of the shogunate by using pseudonymous paintings, and sent out to the world Sengoku period military commanders connected to Toyotomi Hideyoshi as warrior paintings. The appeal of Taiheiki Eiden is the expressive illustrations of the warlords that bring out their individual personalities, and the short biographies of the warlords written by playwright Ryukatei Nekazu. They fit together perfectly and are expressed like a picture scroll of history. The poses, costumes, and scenes that show the humanity of each military commander are attractive in each of the 50 illustrations, and the fun of collecting them may have been a reason why they were popular with the people of Edo. ## Old paintings may be stained, damaged, faded, moth-eaten and other aging phenomena Please check the photos +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We will send the package via postal service Combined shipping not available Shipped within one week after payment.
