However, the actual treaty was a result of increased public dissatisfaction due to the growing concern that the U.S. military would be drawn into the war, criticism of the criminal immunity of U.S. soldiers in Japan, and the suspicion that Prime Minister Kishi, a cabinet member during World War II, was a Class A war criminal.
