Born in Hiroshima in 1976, Domoto studied Visual Design at Takarazuka University of Art and Design in 1998 and completed her training at the Fukui Prefectural Industrial Technology Centre in 2000. In 2004, she built her own wood-fired kiln in Echizen, Fukui Prefecture, where she continues to produce expressive ceramic works today. This piece features a bold, sculptural form reminiscent of natural stone, with subtle crackle patterns in the glaze (kan’nyū) and an organic, hand-formed opening that embodies the wabi-sabi aesthetic. Its raw texture and asymmetry create a harmonious balance between nature and craftsmanship, reflecting Domoto’s modern interpretation of Echizen’s ancient ceramic tradition. Signed “Echizen Kumiko” (越前久美子) on the accompanying wooden box, with the artist’s seal below. The vase in very good used condition with minimal wear. The wooden box has some stains.
