Biography Shiokawa Bunrin (1808-1877) Painter of the late Edo - Meiji period. Born in Kyoto in 5th year of Bunka era. His nickname was Shion, Zusho. The pseudonym is Unsho, Senisei, and Mokubutsuan.. Studied under Okamoto Toyohiko. Became a central figure of the Shijo School during the Meiji Restoration. In 1866, he gathered painters in Kyoto to form the Jyo-un-sha. He built the foundation of the Meiji Kyoto art world. His students included Kouno Bairei and Nomura Bunkyo. He died in 1877 at the age of 70.
