Spring at the Lake (湖之春) - Kōnan Ishii (石井公男) - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Work Title: Spring at the Lake (湖之春) Artist: Kōnan Ishii (石井公男) Technique: Woodblock Print Signature & Seal: Artist's signature and seal located in the bottom right corner of the print Paper Size: 27 × 24 cm (10.6 × 9.4 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) This exquisite woodblock print was created in the 1990s by Kōnan Ishii (石井公男), a modern Japanese painter and printmaker. Produced using traditional multi-color woodblock techniques, it features rich, textured colors—while continuing the delicate depiction of natural landscapes characteristic of Japanese printmaking, it also uses soft, fresh blue and green as the main tones to convey a tranquil mood: the background consists of deep blue mountains dusted with lingering snow (their soft shapes carrying the expressive charm of Japanese landscape art), and the foreground is a calm lake, whose surface clearly reflects the mountains and the yellow-green woodland along the shore, amplifying the profound serenity of nature. The artist’s signature and seal appear in the bottom right corner of the image. Due to age, the paper shows slight oxidation and yellowing; the print remains in good condition. This artwork does not include a frame; the images showing a framed version are for display purposes only to illustrate how it would look when matted and framed. Artist NotesIn Shōwa 31 (1956), Kōnan Ishii (石井公男) studied under Keigetsu Matsubayashi (松林桂月)—a deceased Japanese painter awarded the Order of Culture and affiliated with the Nitten (日展) system. He won multiple awards at art exhibitions in Chiba Prefecture, and in Shōwa 36 (1961), he was first selected for the Nitten (日展) (Japan Art Exhibition), continuing to exhibit works there thereafter. After Keigetsu Matsubayashi (松林桂月)’s passing, he studied under Gensō Okuda (奥田元宋), another Order of Culture recipient who represented the Nitten (日展) system in modern Japanese painting. His works Mount Tanigawa (Heisei 7 (1995), 27th Nitten, collected by the Nitten Main Hall) and Waiting for Spring (Heisei 9 (1997), 29th Nitten, collected by the Nitten Main Hall) earned special selection awards. He is a painter who has consistently depicted landscapes of Japan’s mountainous regions. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
