Italienische Schule (XVII) - Jesus

JESUS - Oil painting on canvas, depicting Jesus being led to judgment, bound and wearing a crown of thorns, absolutely a work of an old master, very expressive. I have examined it thoroughly and compared the painting with others, and the striking similarity with the works of the painter Caravaggio becomes increasingly evident, his chiaroscuro style, the same brushwork on the basis of which another of his masterpieces was recently authenticated, the fact that this work was present in a gallery in Italy, in San Remo and it bears authentication on the back for that period, XVII–XVIII century, the same colors, in places you can see the outlining of elements in the painting as the master did before like this painting. Another clue is the crown of thorns in the same manner, with the use of a lighter color in places to create a sense of luminosity, the same gray-white on the lower garment, etc., etc. Additionally, under ultraviolet light, two initials appear, namely MM in the lower left. It is known that there is only one signed work by Caravaggio, signed Michelangelo, but in the present work the two M's stand out, considering that the master's full name was Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. The painting is generously sized at 84 / 56 cm and requires minor restoration on the lower edge. The work also has an XRF test performed at the Museum of History in Bucharest, signed and sealed, which details the entire composition of metals and substances in the painting, placing it in the aforementioned period, including the cinnabar element that was also used by Caravaggio for vivid colors, especially for drops of blood. Only a few elements appears in painting that are different to classic elements used by Carvaggio but it’s something normal if a restauration was made some time ago.
