Dit schilderij is uitgevoerd in gemengde techniek en gemaakt door Robbert Fortgens (1960). Fortgens werd geboren in Utrecht, studeerde aan de Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam en woont en werkt tegenwoordig in Antwerpen. In zijn vroege oeuvre liet hij zich inspireren door fotografisch realisme, maar na het zien van het werk van Willem de Kooning in 1988 maakte hij een radicale artistieke wending richting het abstract expressionisme. Kenmerkend voor zijn volwassen werk is de samensmelting van schilderkunst en fotografie: twee ogenschijnlijk tegengestelde disciplines die hij in één beeldtaal verenigt. Door te spelen met verf, fotografie en gelaagdheid onderzoekt Fortgens de spanning tussen waarneming en verbeelding, wat resulteert in een rijk, meerduidig en eigentijds oeuvre.
