Een indrukwekkend en zeldzaam natuurhistorisch object: deze gefossiliseerde slagtand van een wolharige mammoet (Mammuthus primigenius) is een prachtig bewaard gebleven fragment uit de ijstijd. Met een lengte van 56 cm, een diameter van 9 cm en een gewicht van 3,5 kilogram, behoort dit tot de grotere en fraai gevormde exemplaren die op de markt beschikbaar zijn.

De slagtand vertoont de kenmerkende spiraalvormige groeistructuur en natuurlijke verwering die typerend is voor fossiele mammoetivoor. De buitenzijde toont fraaie tinten in bruin, crème en grijs, veroorzaakt door eeuwenlange mineralisatie in de bodem. Ondanks het formaat en gewicht is de tand structureel stabiel, met een fraaie kromming en karakteristieke textuur.

Dit type fossiel stamt doorgaans uit Siberisch permafrostgebied of Noord-Europa, waar het dankzij natuurlijke conservering duizenden jaren bewaard bleef. De wolharige mammoet leefde in de Pleistocene periode, en stierf zo’n 10.000 jaar geleden uit. Een tastbare herinnering aan een verdwenen wereld.
