Karuselli Lounge Chair with Rare Swiveling Ottoman by Yrjö Kukkapuro for Haimi, Finland, Early 1970s

A stunning early 1970s example of the iconic Karuselli lounge chair, complete with its rare matching swiveling ottoman. This is the original production by Haimi, both pieces marked with the Haimi label.

Widely regarded as one of the most comfortable and forward-thinking lounge chairs of the 20th century, the Karuselli is a masterpiece of Scandinavian modern design. Its organic shape was carefully sculpted by Finnish designer Yrjö Kukkapuro to perfectly fit the human body, combining ergonomics, function, and beauty.

According to Kukkapuro, the chair’s design was inspired by building snow chairs with his daughter and was refined over several years, culminating in 1964. The Karuselli quickly became an international sensation—featured on the cover of Domus in 1966 by Gio Ponti and famously described by Sir Terence Conran as his favorite chair.

This particular set was acquired from the first owner, a retired architect who displayed it in his office. It has been professionally restored in recent years, ensuring it remains fully functional and ready for daily use while preserving its vintage charm.
