This iconic weapon, called Qauata in the local language of Christobal Island in the Solomon, was used as a fighting club and Parrying shield . It was deflecting spears and arrows with the broad curved blade .
The large flared curved blade with a central rib which ends with a W . The stylized 'W' on the blade may represent the outspread wings of a frigate bird, which was a symbol of male power.130cm long.
Beautiful and authentic pieces of Oceanic tribal art.
