Condition is fair to good, but some wear and some little spots of paint missing (see photo).

Alfred Gabali was born in Germany on may 4. He left his house at the age of 16 to become a sailor on the four mast sail ship “Pamier”.
His early years were spent on ships and the maritime school where he passed as an officer. On one of his travels he came into contact with Schnars Alquist who later became his teacher (drawing/ painting). When he returned to Germany at the beginning of the first W.W. he was made captain of a small patrol vessel which sank in a storm. He barely survived, after being in the water for 6 hours. What he did during the first W.W. is unknown. After the war he returned to sea, up to 1923 when he returned to Hamburg and made a living as  an artist. His wife died in 1935.

He died in 1963.
