Description from the seller

Rare original engraving by Ludolf Bakhuizen, depicting a lively scene with various figures at the port of Amsterdam, from the series of ten marine landscape engravings called 'Stroom en Zeegezichten.'
Sample cut along the edge, on laid paper with watermark, in good condition, with only irregular trimming along the lower margin and two visible transverse folds; on the back, traces of old adhesion at the corners (see photo).
In the bottom left, 'LB' and the date '1701', below the image, 'L. Bakhuizen made and published with privilege of the order of Holland and West Frisia'.
Figures are strolling along a quay; among them, two gentlemen greeting each other with a bow in the foreground on the right; two large sailing boats in the background on the left and right.
Ludolf Bakhuizen was a painter and engraver, primarily of marine landscapes; a student of Allaert van Everdingen, he was active in Amsterdam from 1647.
Hollstein Dutch & Flemish, 9.III; Bartsch, IV.279.9; Dutuit, IV.13.9.
