Oil painting titled 'Menigte op strand', from the 1940s on origin Netherlands, by the Hollandse School; hand-signed, original edition; depicts a lively fishermen scene on the coast and is sold with a frame, measuring 120 x 93 cm.
Description from the seller
This painting depicts a lively fishing scene along the coast, rendered in a loose, impressionistic brushwork. In the foreground we see a group of women in traditional dress, busily at work with buckets and baskets full of fish. Their bent postures and rhythmic motions emphasize the daily toil taking place here. Behind them lies a fishing boat on the dry, near a white building with a red roof and a characteristic lighthouse that towers gracefully above the landscape.
The painter uses warm earth tones for the figures and the sandy ground, while the fresh blue of the sky and subtle light effects give the whole an open and lively atmosphere. With short, broad brushstrokes, the artist captures not only the scene but also the dynamic and hard work of the coastal community. The result is a atmospheric and historically resonant image that offers a glimpse of traditional fishing life.
The work is signed, but the signature is unclear and thus the maker is unknown.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 120 x 93 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 99 x 71 cm
