Description from the seller
Joan Miró (1893–1983)
Passacaille, 1968
Original color aquatint on Japanese paper, created in 1968, during one of the most refined moments of Joan Miró's graphic production. The work is signed in pencil in the lower right corner and marked H.C. (Hors de Commerce) in the lower left corner, identifying this specimen as a proof made outside of commerce, especially valued for its rarity and proximity to the artist's creative process.
With dimensions of 55.5 × 38.5 cm, Passacaglia unfolds a rhythmic and poetic visual language characteristic of Miró, where floating signs, spontaneous lines, and fields of color dialogue with an almost musical cadence, directly alluding to the title of the work. The use of etching allows for a lively and expressive line, while the Japanese paper, uncommon in his work, adds a tactile quality and subtle chromatic nuances that significantly enrich the print.
This is a work that is difficult to find on the market, both due to its H.C. condition and its support and provenance, coming from the former collection of Étienne Sassi, Paris, which adds an additional historical and documentary value. Beyond its artistic relevance, Passacaglia is a piece that interacts naturally with contemporary architecture, functioning exceptionally well in modern spaces, where its balance between gesture, emptiness, and color adds character, sophistication, and a timeless presence.
A unique, rare, and highly representative example of Miró's more free and elegant graphic work.
