Description from the seller
This refined Japanese hanging scroll depicts a majestic mountainous landscape with cascading waterfalls, pine-covered hills, and small human dwellings, rendered in soft mineral pigments and ink. The layered mountain forms and gentle color gradation create a strong sense of depth and tranquility, evoking the classical aesthetics of late Nihonga landscape painting.
The work is attributed to Tajika Chikuson (1864–1922), an accomplished painter active from the late Meiji into the Taisho period. The inscription and stylistic features are consistent with works produced around 1917 (Teishi year). While the attribution is traditional, it is presented as such in accordance with standard art-market practice.
Painted delicately on silk, this scroll exemplifies the mature landscape style favored in the early 20th century.
