Description from the seller
Louis Nagelkerke (Eindhoven, February 3, 1949) has been working as a professional artist since 1980. Louis is a versatile artist who is never without inspiration or new ideas. Movement, beauty, and mysticism are characteristic of his artworks. He is especially inspired by life in the Indonesian archipelago and is fascinated by the mystery of its inhabitants, both human and animal. His inspiration often relates to the Eastern person—musicians, dancers, and female dancers, particularly the people of the beautiful island of Bali. People from the theater are also frequently his models. The subjects of his work are as varied and rich as life itself. But his love for Eastern culture and religion, music, and dance is always present. Louis Nagelkerke is especially known for his highly realistic depictions of people—bringing out the beauty in humans and animals. This is the artist's credo, aiming to make the world more beautiful with his paintings. He is capable of capturing the essence of the image in posture and atmosphere with precision.
This three-panel artwork depicts three elegant nude figures in classical poses, each set against a richly decorated background with golden leaf tones and graceful, art-nouveau-style ornaments. The women are rendered realistically, with soft skin tones and subtle light accents that emphasize their forms and postures. Their gazes and body language range from inviting to reserved, creating a playful and narrative dynamic between the panels.
At the feet of the figures are several cats, finely painted and full of character, adding a charming and subtly humorous element to the whole. The golden background and stylized patterns give the work a decorative, almost theatrical appearance, while the realistic depiction of the women is typical of Nagelkerke’s refined technique and sense of human expression.
The work consists of 3 panels measuring 181 cm x 61 cm each (including hooks).
