Mimmo Rotella, Quando la moglie è in vacanza, a limited edition serigraphy on board, 100 x 70 cm, 1 kg, produced in Italy in the 1990s, signed by hand and numbered with the Fondazione Rotella dry stamp.
Description from the seller
Original work by Mimmo Rotella, undisputed master of décollage and central figure of European art of the second half of the twentieth century.
The works belong to the renowned cycle dedicated to cinema, in which Rotella reworks original movie posters through the technique of tearing and reassembly, transforming the popular image into a powerful contemporary visual language. The torn, overlapped, and reassembled fragments create a dynamic tension between image and memory, between cultural icon and artistic gesture.
When the wife is on vacation, she becomes one of the most iconic subjects in the history of cinema, reinterpreted by Rotella through his radical technique of tearing and reassembling. The famous poster of the film with Marilyn Monroe is torn, overlaid, and transformed into a new image charged with visual and emotional tension.
The act of tearing is not destructive but creative: Rotella fragments the icon to restore it with renewed strength, engaging in an imaginary dialogue with collective cultural memory and matter. The folds, abrasions, and paper overlays become central expressive elements, directly witnessing the artist's intervention.
The works are hand-signed and feature the embossed seal of the Mimmo Rotella Foundation, an element that guarantees their authenticity and enhances their collectible value.
When the wife is on vacation - Multiple decollages with poster strips applied on silkscreen support on cardboard.
