Description from the seller
Original work by Mimmo Rotella, an undisputed master of décollage and a central figure in European art of the second half of the twentieth century.
The works belong to the renowned cycle dedicated to cinema, in which Rotella reworks original film posters through the technique of tearing and reassembly, transforming the popular image into a powerful contemporary visual language. The torn fragments, overlapped and reassembled, create a dynamic tension between image and memory, between cultural icon and artistic gesture.
Through Wind's Wake is born from the reinterpretation of one of the most famous cinematic manifestos of all time. Through the practice of tearing, Rotella intervenes in the collective imagination, transforming the great epic story of cinema into a living, fragmented matter, traversed by time and memory.
The characters, scenes, and colors of the film emerge and disappear among tears, overlaps, and paper abrasions. The artist's gesture breaks the linear narrative to restore a deeper image, where the cinematic myth is consumed, reinvented, and made contemporary.
The work retains a strong dramatic and visual charge, typical of Rotella's works dedicated to American cinema, and is a perfect example of his mature approach to décollage: controlled, layered, and highly recognizable.
The works are signed by hand and feature the dry stamp of the Mimmo Rotella Foundation, an element that guarantees their authenticity and enhances their collectible value.
