This is a beautiful and well-balanced set of 8 authentic Japanese hand-blown glass fishing floats, notable for its particularly harmonious and attractive colour palette.
The set includes both spherical and rare cylinder-type (rolling-pin style) floats, making it an excellent collector’s lot as well as a striking decorative ensemble.

These floats were traditionally used by Japanese fishermen from the early to mid-20th century, especially along the northern coastal regions of Japan.
Japan was among the earliest countries to adopt glass fishing floats, beginning production in the early 1900s as a durable alternative to wooden and cork floats.
By the 1930s–1960s, Japanese hand-blown floats were widely used not only domestically but also across the Pacific through fishing networks.

Each float in this set was individually mouth-blown, resulting in natural variations such as bubbles, swirling textures, tool marks, and subtle asymmetry—hallmarks of genuine working floats and clear distinctions from modern reproductions.
