French engraved plate signed Pierre-Philippe Choffard, 1778.

An allegorical composition bringing together ancient emblems, depicted medallions, medical attributes, and scholarly references that formed part of Choffard's prestige decorative repertoire, intended for his erudite works and frontispieces in the second half of the 18th century.

Etching on vergé paper, a large, untrimmed plate with margins preserved, an early-period impression of high quality, the burin clean with no visible wear.

The signatures “fecit 1778” and “P. Choffard” are present, and indicate that Choffard was the direct author of the design and that he carried it out personally.

A large-format ensemble, a rare scholarly subject, combining the date of execution, a handwritten signature, and remarkable preservation for an etching from 1778.

Very good overall condition, edges slightly worn and a small tear on the upper part of the artwork visible in the photo; these are part of the artwork's description.
