Engraving Il riposo di Venere e Vulcano by Benoit Audran the Elder (1661–1721) after a design by Francesco Albani, an aquaforte incision on laid paper from the 17th century Baroque period, 334 by 288 mm, signed on the plate, in good condition, made in France.

The most refined engraving
Set in a landscape at the foot of Mount Etna, Venus lies to the left beside Vulcan, a cherub shows him its center on the shield, while to the right the cherubs forge arrows for the conquest of Adonis.
Others in the background try their hand at archery.
High above on a cloud, surrounded by the handmaids, one can discern Diana, goddess of the hunt, watching the work of the Cupids.
Albani Francesco (1578–1660): inventor
From the early 18th century, on laid paper by Francesco Albani (Italian, 1578–1660) engraved by Benoit Audran the Elder (1661–1721). Mentioned on the plaque.

Excellent paper condition, trimmed at the top to the edge of the plate, complete with the caption bearing the authors' signatures, two old restorations on the back.

Benoît Audran the Elder (1661–1721). Belonging to a dynasty of famous French engravers, he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1709.
His pupil was the painter and engraver Bernard Picart (1673-1733).
Francesco Albani, 1578-1660
He studied in Bologna under the guidance of the Carracci; he moved to Rome in 1601 with his dear friend Guido Reni.
