Biography: Isis Kischka (Paris, 1908–1973) was a French figurative painter.
His parents, immigrants from the Russian Empire, settled in Paris.
Isis Kischka completed part of his studies in Dreux. He experienced the concentration camps during the Second World War, near Compiègne, where he met, notably, the artist and painter Abraham-Joseph Berline (1894-1944). He survived the internment. A merchant in men's shirts, he developed a passion for art.
Of an expressionist inclination, he was the president-founder of the Salon of Painters Witnessing Their Time, of which he served as secretary-general until his death in 1973. With the help of Georges Reccio, the association took shape: he organized annual exhibitions at the Musée d'Art Moderne and at the Musée Galliera in the city of Paris, helping to showcase promising artists, around general themes. A posthumous tribute was paid to him in 1975, on the theme: 'As You Like It...' at the Orangerie in the French capital.
In 2001, the works from his studio were auctioned off.
The Meudon Art and History Museum possesses many drawings from the Salon des peintres témoins de leur temps, which belonged to Kischska, who did not sign the majority of his works.
