In this composition, Doutreleau captures the essence of movement and speed, central themes of his work. The artist, born in 1938 in Arles, is recognized for his dynamic landscapes that explore the dispersion of light and motion.
"Le Cockpit" perfectly illustrates this fascination, offering the viewer an immersion into the aeronautical universe, where lines and shapes suggest the perspective from a cockpit in full action.
Pierre Doutreleau was born on June 14, 1938. Originally from Arles, he grew up in the light that dazzled Van Gogh, Cézanne, and many other painters.
Pierre Doutreleau discovers Nicolas de Staël in 1958 at his friends Aublet's place, who help and encourage him to exhibit. Hélène Cingria introduces him to Lucile Manguin, who had just opened the Galerie de Paris and who signs him under contract in 1964.
In 1968, during a stay in the United States, he had the revelation of what would become the subject of his research: Speed and Movement.
A specific approach to painting linked to the passion for movement, life, wind, and the wind of life.
What interests me, in reality, is to paint the wind. In life, everything is movement. And if sometimes my paintings give the impression of stillness, it is because, in fact, they emanate from movement. I paint precise moments of life.
Since those years, many solo exhibitions have brought Pierre Doutreleau recognition worldwide, and from Paris to Los Angeles, Tokyo to Munich or Rio, his works are featured in numerous collections. From that date onward, many solo exhibitions have followed one after another. His native Burgundy is the primary source of his inspiration. Nature means a great deal to him; his flower bouquets are the most extraordinary representations of this.
