Description from the seller
Francisco de GOYA (1746-1828)
PROVERBIOS: modo de Volar
Heliography (Engraving, Aquatint)
see Harris 263 III 3-7
Sheet size: 460 mm x 375 mm
Image size: 317 mm x 210 mm
Goya's late work (also known as "Los Disparates/Suenos") with its 18 or 22 sheets and dreamlike, also dark scenes, is regarded as the artistically most valuable print sequence of his graphic oeuvre.
The etchings full of extravagances, follies and absurdities probably date from before 1815/1823.
Only in 1850 were the first copies published as rare, bound proofs.
The engravings (H. Schmidt 1920) were produced as facsimiles from the original engravings by Goya, in the possession of the Graphic Collection Berlin. It is believed that they are the proofs of that extremely rare publication from 1850.
The printing quality of 1920 (Hugo Schmidt Verlag) surpasses, due to the poor quality of the printing plates detectable in 1864, the edition of the Royal Academy Madrid from 1864.
Limited edition: 500 copies. This is volume #153.
Pages with documentation of the provenance of the etching are sent as a copy with shipment.
Goya, the eternal dream of flying.
