Ulrike Zilly is a German contemporary artist whose work is characterized by a multifaceted, often humorous engagement with figure, myth, and society. She was born in 1952 in Oberhausen and lives and works in Düsseldorf. She completed her artistic training at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where she early developed an independent visual language.

Zilly moves confidently between painting, drawing, sculptural works, and performative projects. In her works, human figures, animals, and fantastical beings meet in narrative, sometimes ironic scenes. In doing so, she combines traditional pictorial themes with contemporary questions and gives them a personal, often playful touch.

An important aspect of her work is collaboration: In the 1980s, Ulrike Zilly was co-founder of the artist group "Die Langheimer", which, through joint actions, exhibitions and publications, explored the boundaries between individual and collective art production.

Besides her freely creative works, Zilly is also known for extensive portrait and project cycles, in which she observes people and their lifeworlds with perceptiveness and sensitivity.
