Description from the seller
Kees Verkade (1941–2020) is best known as a sculptor and draftsman, but he also produced silkscreens. His graphic work aligns with his sculptural style: it centers on the energy of movement, human figures, and a certain dynamism.
In his silkscreens you often see fluid, expressive lines and bold, bright colors, making the figures almost seem to jump into motion. Just as in his imagery, it’s not about tight, realistic details, but about the essence of a pose or moment.
His subjects are usually human figures, often in action or in an elegant, almost dance-like pose. The screen prints thus have a lively, theatrical atmosphere and seem to capture a movement.
Dimensions of the artwork with frame: 37 x 28 cm
Dimensions of the artwork without a frame: 29 x 20 cm
Framed artwork.
Appointments for viewing are available. We have our own framing workshop (celebrating 85 years) and work with recognized restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Please feel free to contact us via our website.
Kees Verkade (Haarlem, 1941) studied from 1958–1963 at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. Although he initially wanted to become an advertising illustrator, he ultimately chose sculpture. His first exhibition at the Vishal yielded two sales to the Frans Hals Museum, after which he established a studio in Zandvoort. In 1966 he received his first commission from the municipality of Haarlem for the statue Winkelen. Later he gained international recognition, especially in France and Monaco, where he has lived and worked since the late 1970s. He had two sons from his first marriage and a daughter from his second.
