Theo Koster's abstract artwork titled Blue, hand-signed, in good condition, 55 x 55 cm, Netherlands, limited edition 41/90 from 1980–1990, framed, mixed media technique, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
This is a work by Theo Koster (Emmeloord, the Netherlands, 1952), who studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunst in Arnhem. Even during his studies, his paintings were landscape in character, albeit more subdued than his more recent work. In that period he developed his own visual language, which he continues to use and further develop to this day.
Characteristic of his work is the way he divides the picture plane: grand skies above land or water, with a low horizon, combined with a clear and contemporary color palette. His sense of color choice and the dynamic brushwork ensure that each painting gains its own recognizable atmosphere. Additionally, Koster makes use of graphic and collage techniques. In his playful and narrative paintings there is simultaneously a sense of calm, which almost automatically creates a compositional balance. In his canvases he processes themes that engage our collective consciousness, such as the meaning of human existence. In doing so, he forges a direct connection with his own life and personal engagement, employing a symbolic visual language.
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
