El barbero de Sevilla is a classical oil painting from Spain dating to the 19th century, titled El barbero de Sevilla and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
The Barber of Seville
A traditional local-color scene set on a street in the old quarter of Seville, where a barber tends to his client outdoors, in front of the facade of a modest house. The central figure, seated in a chair, wears traditional Spanish attire, with a short jacket, tight breeches and stockings in bright colors, while the barber, standing, performs his craft with an attentive gesture.
The scene comes to life with the presence of several characters who observe the action or converse among themselves. The female figures appear dressed in mantilla and a fringed mantón, adorned with flowers in the hair, while the male characters wear traditional outfits, reinforcing the typically Sevillian character of the composition.
The meticulous attention to dress details, gestures, and the architectural setting places the work within 19th‑century genre painting, with a distinctly costumbrista sensibility, focused on portraying everyday life and local traditions.
