Fon Klement, Le Fenêtre, 1993. A limited edition silkscreen print (122/125) 80 x 80 cm, signed and framed, from the Netherlands.
Description from the seller
Signature: Signed Fon Klement (ro), dated '93 (ro), titled Le Fenêtre (mo), numbered 122/125 (lo), marked as own print (lo) and marked fingerprints (ro)
Fon Klement was, as an artist, self-taught. After a brief period in which he gained recognition as a figurative painter and woodcarver, the first color-printed lithographs were created in 1960 in the technique characteristic of him: 'the high-relief board print'. Recognizable formal elements gradually gave way to more abstract motifs in a sober color palette. For Fon Klement the later (re-)discovery of watercolor technique came exactly at the right time. Artistically he found himself at a crossroads. The need to change direction grew stronger. Fon Klement set off on a search and traveled more than ten weeks through Provence. In his improvised little studio in the South of France, Lorgues, there were flowers in abundance: poppies, irises, roses, delphiniums and hibiscus enticed the artist to continue on the path he had already embarked upon: painting and watercoloring flower still lifes. Since 1961 Fon Klement was a member of Xylon, the international association of wood engravers, which regularly presents graphic art throughout Europe. The exhibition ‘Prints today in the USA’ with an overview of graphics by Dutch artists, including Fon Klement, traveled for many years across the United States. During the graphic biennial ‘Grafiek Nu’ in Laren (autumn 1990), and later at the first international graphic biennale in Maastricht (summer 1993), Fon Klement was awarded the Audience Prize.
